ClearV (Nd:YAG 1064nm) is a laser for the treatment of vascular lesions, port wine stains, visible vessels, broken capillaries, and spider veins.
Vascular lesions are typically caused by abnormal blood flow and weakening of the blood vessel wall. Vascular lesions increase with age. They can also develop after acne rosacea, environmental damage caused by the sun or cold temperatures, trauma to the skin, radiation therapy, and chronic treatment with topical corticosteroids.
ClearV uses SVI (subsurface vein illumination) technology to enhance visibility to locate subsurface and feeder veins to treat thoroughly and effectively, while maintaining surrounding tissue integrity.
ClearV uses dual-wavelength laser technology to deliver targeted energy to vascular lesions and other blood vessels within the skin. The wavelengths are specifically chosen to optimise absorption by the blood, allowing for controlled thermal disruption of the vessels. This treatment process facilitates the natural absorption of the treated blood vessels over time, without affecting the surrounding tissue.

Conditions Treated:
- Telangiectasia (spider veins)
- Facial erythema (redness associated with vascular conditions)
- Vascular lesions (including larger veins)
- Broken capillaries
All medical procedures carry risks. Some of the risks of ClearV include:
- Erythema (redness) may occur in the area of treatment. This may last several hours.
- Edema (swelling) of the skin may occur. In rare cases there may be blistering.
- Urticaria (itching) and hive-like appearance is also associated with the thermal light affecting the surrounding skin
- Infection is not usual after treatment; however herpes simplex virus infections around the mouth can occur following treatments. This applies to both individuals with a past history of the virus or individuals with no known history.
Post-treatment instructions:
The treated area must be treated with care. BE GENTLE! Do not scratch or pick at your skin.
A cold compress or an ice pack can be used to provide comfort if the treated area is especially warm. This is typically only needed within the first 12 hours after the treatment.
Vitamin E or Aloe Vera applied to the treatment area may provide a soothing effect.
Post treatment discomfort is typically minimal but if the area is very uncomfortable, oral pain relievers may be used. Avoid Aspirin or Aspirin containing products for two weeks after the treatment.
In the unusual case of crusting of the skin in the treated area, apply a moisturising ointment twice a day to the affected areas. Do not pick at these areas, as this may result in infection or scarring.
If the skin is broken or a blister appears, apply an antibiotic ointment and contact Averythe office immediately. Keep the affected area moist and avoid direct sunlight.
In rare cases, hives have been reported after laser vein removal treatments. If you experience an irritated raised rash after treatment contact the office. Benadryl may be taken to help relieve the itchiness.
To decrease any achiness or discomfort after treatment, support hose or an ace bandage MAY be helpful, and they may also help in reducing the amount of bruising. The research comparing the use of support hose versus not using support hose demonstrates mixed results.
If you received laser vein removal treatment to your legs, your treating practitioner will instruct you in resuming your normal activity level. Often, strenuous activities such as exercise, walking or running may interfere with vessel closure.
Until sensitivity has completely subsided, avoid all of the following:
- Applying make-up over the treated areas
- Use of scented lotions or soaps, exfoliant creams (Retin-A, glycolic/salicylic and alpha- hydroxy acids), acne creams or gels, loofa sponges and aggressive scrubbing
- Hot or cold water - wash with tepid water
- Shaving
- Swimming pools and spas with multiple chemicals/chlorine and severe temperature changes
- Activities that cause excessive perspiration
Strictly avoid any sun exposure to the treated area for a minimum of 7 days after the procedure. The treated area is more prone to sunburn and pigmentation change. Keep the area covered and use a sun block with a protection factor of 30+ reapplying the sun block every two hours. Delayed blistering secondary to sun exposure has been noted up to 72 hours post treatment.
ClearV is suitable for use on all skin types. ClearV should not be used if you have an infectious or connective tissue disease, are immunocompromised, pregnant, are taking medication known to increase sensitivity to light, or have a medical condition that may affect wound healing. ClearV is also not suitable for you if you have a haemorrhagic (bleeding) disorder or haemostatic (bleeding) dysfunction; or have used isotretinoin (Accutane) within the past 6-12 months.
Avoid alcohol in the week prior to your treatment because it can increase the risk of bruising and swelling. Avoid aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications 2 weeks prior. Hair in the treatment area should be shaved prior to the treatment.
The area to be treated will be cleaned to remove any dirt, makeup or moisture. Treatment times vary depending on the area being treated. Some mild pain and discomfort are to be expected, although this varies depending on individual factors, such as pain tolerance level. Eye protection will be provided for you to wear during your treatment. Treatments are ideally performed 4-6 weeks apart, with 2-3 treatments required to address your concerns.
