Collagen stimulators are used in conditions associated with skin quality, including crepey skin. Their primary role is to improve the structure and appearance of the skin. Collagen stimulators work by stimulating the body’s own collagen and elastin, establishing structural support for the skin and improving skin quality.
Some collagen stimulators aim to rejuvenate the skin rather than volumise, while others volumise as well as rejuvenate through the stimulation of collagen and elastic in the skin over time.
Collagen stimulation treatments can only be considered within the context of a consultation to determine suitability given your unique circumstances. To book your consultation email us at concierge@averyplasticsurgery.com.au or call our Care Team on (02) 4002 4150.
Possible risks of treatment include:
- Bruising. This is the most common risk and will fade over time.
- Mild to moderate pain or swelling around the areas treated.
- Increased sensitivity to pain in the treatment area.
- Numbness.
- Granulomas or nodules underneath the skin (risk <0.05%).
Suitable for crepey, thinning, and/or skin with wrinkles on the face, neck, decolletage and hands. Collagen stimulation treatments should not be undertaken if you have active skin cancers within the treatment areas; open wounds or sores; irritated skin within the treatment zone; an allergy to stainless steel or anaesthetics; a haemorrhagic (bleeding) disorder or haemostatic (bleeding) dysfunction; or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Avoid alcohol in the week prior to your treatment because it can increase the risk of bruising and swelling. Also avoid aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications 2 weeks prior.
The area is typically numbed but you will feel a pushing sensation. The amount of time each treatment takes depends on the area being treated and can range from 30 to 60 minutes. Treatment of multiple areas in the same appointment will increase the length of time required. The number of treatments required depends on the area being treated and the degree of the condition being treated. A minimum of 1-2 treatments are typical. Results can take up to 12 weeks to be seen, and typically last for 9-18 months. Treatments can be repeated as required to address ongoing concerns.
Ideally you will avoid exercise, alcohol and make-up for 24 hours after your treatment. Avoid using products containing retinoids or other potentially irritating ingredients until redness or swelling has subsided post treatment.

FAQs
No, typically results last between 9-8 months. It is difficult to say with certainty because the duration of your results depends on individual factors such as age, lifestyle, and the severity of the treating concern. The ongoing ageing process and the level of environmental stress your skin experiences will also affect how long the results of your treatment(s) last.
