CoolPeel® is a light, superficial CO₂ laser resurfacing treatment. It lifts away the dull, sun-affected surface layer of the skin and prompts a little fresh collagen, so skin looks smoother, brighter and more even, with finer-looking pores. Because it works at the surface and leaves very little heat behind, it offers a genuine CO₂ result with only a day or two of redness — rather than the longer recovery required with more intense fractional CO₂ treatments.
CoolPeel is best thought of as a refresh and a glow, not a deep correction. It is well suited to early signs of ageing and ongoing skin maintenance, and works best in a series of treatments.
CoolPeel® may help with:
- Dullness and uneven skin tone
- Rough or uneven texture
- Fine lines
- Enlarged-looking pores
- Mild sun damage
- Overall skin quality and radiance
Being clear about what it won't do: CoolPeel works at the surface, so it won't lift significant skin laxity or soften deep wrinkles or deep scars. If those are your main concern, a deeper option or a different treatment is the better path — your clinician will talk you through this at consultation.
CoolPeel is most predictable, with the lowest risk, in fairer skin types. Because it is a superficial CO₂ treatment with minimal residual heat, it can be a gentler CO₂ option for medium skin tones — but it is still a CO₂ laser, and the risk of temporary pigment change rises with skin colour. For deeper skin tones we take a cautious approach and may recommend an alternative. Your suitability and the right plan for your skin are assessed with your clinician.

All medical procedures carry risks. Some possible risks associated with CoolPeel® include:
- Redness, much like light sunburn, and a feeling of tightness in the first day or two.
- Mild swelling, which can be eased with a cold compress.
- Slight roughness and fine flaking as the surface renews.
- Itching as the old skin sheds and new skin forms — do not scratch the treated area.
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (temporary browning) or hypopigmentation (lightening). These usually settle over weeks to months and are more likely in reactive or deeper skin; permanent colour change is a rare risk. Diligent sun protection before and after reduces this risk.
- Infection is uncommon, but cold-sore (herpes simplex) reactivation around the mouth can occur, including in people with no known history.
- Occasionally, more persistent redness or pigment change, particularly if the skin is reactive or the settings are pushed — recovery is individual.
- Allergic or localised reactions to topical preparations are uncommon.
What to expect after your treatment:
- Most people experience about one to two days of redness and tightness, then slight roughness and fine flaking.
- Many are back to normal activities within 24–48 hours.
- Occasionally a little pinkness can linger for up to a week.
Post-treatment instructions:
- Cleanse gently twice a day with lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser; pat dry — do not rub, scrub or exfoliate the treated area.
- Keep the skin comfortable with a bland moisturiser, and let any flaking come away naturally — do not pick.
- Apply broad-spectrum SPF daily and avoid direct sun while the skin settles.
- Normal skincare can usually resume within a few days.
- CoolPeel treatments to the face, neck or chest include topical aftercare to see your skin through to barrier restoration.
CoolPeel® may not be suitable if you have an infectious or connective tissue disease, are immunocompromised, are pregnant, have a condition that may affect wound healing, are intolerant to anaesthetic-based agents, have a tendency to keloid scarring, or have used isotretinoin (Accutane) within the past 4 weeks. Smoking and nicotine products may delay healing. Suitability is confirmed with your clinician.
Avoid alcohol in the week before your treatment, and aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications for two weeks prior, as these can increase the risk of bruising and swelling. Strict sun avoidance and broad-spectrum SPF in the weeks before and after are important; for some skin types your clinician may recommend a short skin-preparation regimen beforehand.
The area is cleansed before treatment. CoolPeel is performed with topical numbing and integrated cooling — broadly comparable to a HALO appointment for comfort. Treatment times vary with the area treated. Eye protection is provided.
Our treatments are tailored to the individual and pricing is provided within the context of consultation. For a price guide please refer to our Treatment Menu, email us at [email protected] or call our Care Team on (02) 4002 4150 to discuss.
CoolPeel can be paired with other treatments to suit your skin goals. It is often performed as a short series, with periodic maintenance afterwards. Where pigment or redness is a concern, BBL® can be added. A consultation is the best way to discuss the treatment options suited to your concerns and goals.
