With age, wrinkles around the eyes and on the forehead that were once temporary start becoming a permanent fixture on the face, giving a tired appearance that can potentially affect vision.
Also known as a forehead lift, a brow lift removes excess skin through incisions hidden within the hairline reducing frown lines, forehead wrinkles and sagging brows, resulting in a more youthful and worry-free appearance.
A brow lift is often considered when a patient is contemplating eyelid surgery, as the two procedures can commonly be done hand-in-hand to produce optimum results. Dr Avery has over a decade of experience in plastic surgery and has been performing brow lifts in Newcastle since 2013.
Brow Lift Consultation
If you are considering a brow lift or similar procedures such as a face lift or eyelid surgery, book a consultation with Dr Avery and together you can discuss the different options available, developing a personalised treatment plan.
Brow Lift Procedure
Depending on the desired result, Dr Avery may use a traditional brow lift technique as described above, or a less invasive technique. An endoscopic brow lift involves creating several small incisions behind the hairline and using an endoscope (a thin tube with a tiny camera at the end) to guide the surgery.
All of our brow lift procedures take place in an accredited hospital under local or general anaesthesia, with appropriately trained support staff and anaesthetist. An uncomplicated brow lift is generally a day surgery, lasting 1–2 hours depending on the technique used, with another hour of recovery time before the patient can go home.
Brow Lift Recovery
Patients may return to work and normal activities within 1–2 weeks after a brow lift, the complexity of the procedure, and any other procedures performed.
There will be some bruising and swelling, which generally subsides about 1–2 weeks after the operation. Patients recovering from a brow lift will be required to wear bandages for a few days to provide support and reduce post-operative pain or swelling.
A customised pain relief program will be created for each patient and issued before leaving the hospital. If circumstances change at any stage during the recovery period, then the pain medication can certainly be adjusted accordingly.
Scars from a brow lift are very small and hidden above the hairline. They will generally fade to almost invisible, although this can vary depending on how well your skin copes with scarring.
