I remember my dad telling me as a little girl, "Mel you can do anything if you put your mind to it." And you know, he's so right to me. Love is embracing who you are as a person and being confident in what you are. It can actually complete other people in the world as well.
Small business has always been my love. I've had lots of different types of small businesses over my life, from accounting practices to motorcycle dealerships.
I'm a musician at heart and it's been a passion that has fueled everything in my life. It's also fueled my children's lives, and music is the very essence that binds my family together. It's very, very special.
My entire life I was a young skinny girl, I was teased and I would almost say bullied through school. I look back now and I hid myself from other people around me in the way that I dressed, in the way that I behaved. It got to a point in my life where I knew that not only did I have to do this from an emotional point of view, but from a physical point of view because I was actually in constant pain.
I think it's normal to have apprehensions when you have surgery, there was this real social stigma around it. But what I realised through that, is that plastic surgery is real, it's available for every woman in every walk of life.
Life since the surgery well, hey look at me! The most amazing thing for me was waking up straight out of surgery, sitting up in bed and realizing that my back pain was gone.
My whole life is actually transformed, even the way that I behave, the way that I present myself, the way that I dress. It has just been an incredible transformation and one that I am just so grateful for, that I've had the opportunity to do this for myself and that's really what it's all about. It's about me taking the step forward and empowering myself to be everything that I know that I am.
